How Much Video Does Your Social Media Actually Need?

Planning social media content production in Bangkok

Marketing teams often ask us how many videos they should post each month. The honest answer is the number you can produce well and keep producing. A brand that posts two strong videos every week for a year will usually do better than one that posts every day for a month and then goes quiet.

This guide helps you set a realistic volume, then shows how to produce it without running a shoot every week.

Match volume to your goal

Different goals need different amounts of video. Start by deciding what your social channels are for.

  • Staying visible. If you want customers to remember you between purchases, a steady rhythm matters most. A few posts a week on your main channel is a good base.

  • Launching something. A product launch or campaign needs a burst of content over a few weeks: teasers, the hero video, cut-downs and follow-up posts.

  • Building trust. B2B brands and high-value services often need fewer videos with more substance, such as interviews, case studies and how-it-works explainers. Our post on why video matters for Bangkok's B2B brands covers this audience.

  • Selling directly. E-commerce and retail brands need many short product videos, refreshed often.

Then look at your channels. Posting the same file everywhere rarely works. TikTok and Instagram Reels favor short vertical video. YouTube suits longer horizontal content. LinkedIn suits short, useful clips with captions. Choose one or two main channels and do them well before adding more.

Count the real work behind each post

Every video takes planning, filming, editing, captions, a thumbnail or cover, a post caption and approval. When teams plan volume, they often count only the filming.

A simple check: list every step for one video and add up the hours. Multiply by your monthly target. If the total is more than your team has, lower the number or get help with production.

Batch shoot to get a month of content in a day

The most efficient way to keep up volume is to shoot many videos in one session. We call this batch shooting.

A typical batch day works like this:

  1. Plan the month first. Write a content calendar with every video, its format and its hook.

  2. Group by setup. Film everything that uses the same location, lighting and talent together.

  3. Shoot wardrobe changes. A few outfit changes make one day of footage look like several.

  4. Capture extra B-roll. Product close-ups, team moments and location shots fill gaps later in the month.

  5. Record vertical and horizontal versions. Frame for both from the start, or shoot wide enough to crop.

One well-planned day can produce a month or more of short videos. It also costs less per video than booking a crew for each post. For more on planning shoots and edits, read how long a brand film takes from brief to final cut.

Repurpose every bigger video

If you already make a brand film, corporate video or TVC, it can feed your social channels for weeks. Plan this before the shoot so the director captures what each version needs.

From one hero video you might cut:

  • A 15-second and a 30-second version for Reels and TikTok

  • Vertical clips of individual scenes or quotes

  • Behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot day

  • Short interview soundbites with captions

  • Still frames for carousel posts and covers

This gives your channels variety without a new shoot each time.

Keep it consistent

Volume works best when people can recognize your videos quickly. Use the same caption style, fonts, colors and intro or outro across your posts. Keep a simple style guide so freelancers, agencies and your own team all produce work that looks like it comes from one brand.

Review results once a month. Note which topics, lengths and hooks hold attention, and plan the next batch around them. Volume should follow what works.

Volume is only part of the problem

Many in-house teams, and brands without a dedicated marketing team, find it hard to produce enough video. Volume is rarely the only gap. Three other skills are just as hard to cover in-house:

  • Writing the brief. Every good video starts with a clear brief: who it is for, the one message, the hook in the first few seconds and what the viewer should do next. Without one, shoots drift and edits go through round after round of changes.

  • Keeping up with trends. Formats, sounds and editing styles on TikTok and Reels change every few weeks. Following them takes daily attention that a busy team rarely has time for.

  • Filming and editing to a professional standard. Lighting, sound, framing, color and pacing are what make a brand look credible on screen. Getting them right takes trained crew, the right equipment and experienced editors.

A production partner can take on all of this, from the brief to the final edit, while your team keeps the posting and community replies it already handles well.

Our social media video production team plans, shoots and edits content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, with every project delivered in the formats each platform needs.

FAQ

How many videos should a brand post per week?

There is no single right number. Pick a rhythm your team can keep for at least six months, such as two or three videos a week on your main channel, then adjust based on results.

Can one shoot day really cover a month of content?

Often, yes, if the month is planned before the shoot. A content calendar, grouped setups and a few wardrobe changes let one day produce many short videos.

Should we post the same video on every platform?

You can reuse the same footage, but edit it for each platform. Change the aspect ratio, length, caption placement and opening hook to suit where it runs.

Is it better to make many simple videos or a few polished ones?

Most brands need both. A polished hero video sets the tone, and simpler short videos keep your channels active between campaigns. Plan them together so the short videos can use footage from the hero shoot.
